Defender believes Albion are in good shape

Full back Nicky Shorey has no concerns over Albion’s league position after the Baggies’ encouraging 2-2 at Sunderland.

Albion looked to be heading to only their second league win of the season after taking an early two goal lead.

But a spirited fight back from the hosts saw Albion settle for a point an move out of the bottom three.

"I think it is always a good point when you get it away at Sunderland, which is always a difficult place to go,

"I think it was one of our best performances of late.

"We passed the ball really well and caused them a lot of problems, to be honest, especially in the first half.

"And in the second half we were quite comfortable.

"I know we were 2-0 up early, probably too early, but Sunderland were always going to have a spell at home when they put us under the cosh.

"After the first half we could have folded but we stood up to the test well and showed what we're made of.

"I thought we played some good stuff in the second half and we probably had more of the ball than them.

"It felt more like us. It felt more like the way we normally play with the way we were knocking the ball about.

"We see all the time in training that the lads have quality on the ball and we showed that at Sunderland, which bodes well for the future.

*Shorey’s teammate Joe Mattock has been called up to the England Under 21 squad to face Iceland and Norway. It’s his first call up in two-and-a-half years.
