West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu is battling to be fit for Roy Hodgson's first match in charge - Sunday's derby clash with Wolves at The Hawthorns.
Mulumbu suffered a thigh injury during Saturday's 3-3 home draw with West Ham.
First team coach Michael Appleton, who was in charge of the team against Stoke, said: "We're hoping it's not too bad. He started to feel it stiffening up."
He added: "Taking Youssouf off was precautionary, with some big games coming up.
"Youssouf has been a big influence on the team all season - home and away. He does a fantastic job for us and his role in the team is key."
The Congo international, 24, wrote on Twitter: "Injured in my right thigh, probably off for several days."
