Mowbray offers Valero support

Tony Mowbray has admitted he must shoulder some of the blame for Borja Valero's difficult first season at West Bromwich Albion. The Spanish midfielder signed for the Baggies from Real Mallorca for £4.75million last summer and has made 24 Premier League appearances since the switch. But Mowbray concedes fans have not consistently seen the best of 24-year-old Valero, who has sometimes struggled to adapt to the pace and power of English football. He told the Express & Star: "Unquestionably he is one of our most gifted footballers, yet the team is all about balance and all season we've never really got it right. "In defence of Borja I never really found the player to complement his talents. We've gone this season without the kind of player who would have allowed him to shine. "But he understands. He's a good lad and a good footballer and he wants to play."
