Hodgson: We deserved to win

Boss says Albion worthy of more than a point New Baggies boss Roy Hodgson believes Albion deserved more than a point after equalising in the last minute to draw 1-1 against Wolves. Carlos Vela came off the bench to level the scores in the third minute of injury time after Jamie O’Hara had given the visitors the lead against the run of play in the first-half. The head coach saw create a number of chances to take all points and believes Wolves were lucky to escape with just a point. "I thought we deserved better. "I thought the performance throughout was good. "We laid siege for long periods to the Wolves goal but we know they defend well. "They are not an easy team to break down and it is even harder when they get a goal lead. "But I've got to say if ever a team worked hard for their equaliser, asked questions, forced good saves and blocks, it was us. "In the end, when you equalise late in a game, you do have that feeling of happiness and satisfaction. "But I'm pretty certain when I think back on the game, say, on Tuesday that I won't be quite as happy as I am at this moment in time. "The performance today told me there is fighting spirit among the players. There is a lot of determination and character. "You need that when you play against teams of Wolves' character. "They are organised, disciplined and very strong both physically and defensively. "If you don't stand up and win your share of challenges, and not give as much effort and commitment as they do on the field, then you lose games. "I thought we matched them in that area. "They scored a great goal and missed a good chance at the start of the second half, but apart from that, Boaz Myhill had a very quiet afternoon and I don't think we can say the same for Wayne Hennessey. "One of my major mantras before today's game was the need to work hard, show a lot of discipline and match everything Wolves can do in that area. "That's what we did. "Then I was hoping we'd show a bit more quality to create a few more goal chances than them - and we did that too."
