Hodgson hails battling Baggies

Roy proud of first win Baggies boss Roy Hodgson praised his Albion side on their first win of the season away at Norwich. Peter Odemwingie’s third minute goal was enough to give Albion a 1-0 at Carrow Road, despite being put under pressure for much of the game. The Nigerian striker – making his first start of the season – also missed a penalty in the second half as the Baggies failed to finish off the spirited Canaries. "It was a very hard-fought victory," said the Baggies boss. "We were our own worst enemy at times, particularly in the second half. "We defended their crosses well and got into good positions in midfield to pass the ball better and cause more problems but we gave the ball away an awful lot in the latter part of the game, especially after missing the penalty. "As a result, you invite your opponents onto you and the ball to be fired into your box. "You then hope your goalkeeper, back four and midfielders stand up and do their jobs. "So I'm very proud of the fact they did that. "But I've got to say we made life harder for ourselves than perhaps was necessary and at this level of football you can't miss penalties, I'm afraid. "At 2-0, it would have been a much quieter last ten or 15 minutes than it turned out to be. "That is what Barclays Premier League football is about. "It doesn't matter if you're West Bromwich Albion or Manchester United. "If it's 1-0 away from home with ten or 15 minutes to go, there are going to be a few balls fired towards your penalty area."
