Fortune returns to Albion

Striker rejoins on permanent deal Marc-Antoine Fortune has returned to the Baggies after signing on a permanent deal from Celtic. The former Nancy striker joined Albion on loan in January 2009 and went on to score five goals in 17 performances for the Baggies. He was unable to prevent the Baggies being relegated under former boss Tony Mowbray and followed him north of the border to join the Hoops in a permanent deal worth £3.8 million. Despite scoring 12 goals in 30 appearances for Celtic, Fortune fell out of favour with new boss Neil Lennon after Mowbray’s departure and penned a two-year contract, plus a year in the club’s favour, for an undisclosed fee. Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo was delighted to bolster his attacking options and welcome back a familiar face to his squad. “I'm delighted to welcome Marco back to the club,” he said. “The great thing about this signing is that it won't take him long to settle in because he knows the club inside out. “He also knows what this league is all about. “Marco got on really well with the other players during his loan here and they’re all delighted to see him back. “He is a powerful striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play and having also signed Peter Odemwingie last week, we now have plenty of competition up front.” He joins Peter Odemwingie, Boaz Myhill, Nicky Shorey, Pablo Ibanez, Gabriel Tamas, Steven Reid and Somen Tchoyi in penning permanent deals.
