Former Wigan man excited by return

Scharner looks forward to Athletic test Former Wigan man Paul Scharner admits he’s got butterflies on the eve of returning to his former club. The Baggies take on the 18th-placed Latics tomorrow (KO 3pm) only a few months after Scharner swapped the DW Stadium for The Hawthorns. The midfielder spent four-and-a-half years in the north-west and is still battling back to full fitness after joining the Baggies in mid-August. "I'm excited about tomorrow's game," said Scharner "I'm still on my way to finding my best because before I joined West Bromwich I hadn't played for five months. "I had my whole pre-season alone, without the team, and I still need time. "Every game the focus is on getting three points and there is no difference for tomorrow's game. "But there is a bit more of a feeling in this game for me than the other games. Scharner, who played every position apart from left-back for Wigan, was part of the Albion side which put an end to their mini slump against West Ham in midweek. The Austrian is no stranger to losing runs after his time at Wigan, but was pleased to earn more points against The Hammers. "It was a good response," he added. "From my point of view I experienced it so many times at Wigan, bad spells after a good start or a good run. "I remember we didn't win for ten or 11 games. "So, Wednesday was a good response from our team. "But tomorrow is another game and it's been a very hard week because we are playing three games in six days. "Tomorrow will show how good we are, how fit we are and how we stay together. "If my team-mates ask me I have a lot of tips in my pocket. "The gaffer analyses every game very well and we'll have a good set-up for tomorrow.”
