Fantastic full-backs delight assistant
Newton full of praise for defenders Albion No.2 Eddie Newton has singled out the ‘fantastic’ efforts of full-backs Nicky Shorey and Gonzalo Jara. The two flying full-backs have impressed so far for the Baggies and helped Albion reach the lofty heights of sixth in the Premier League. The form of the duo is no surprise to Newton who sees the quality of the pair in training every day. "Nicky and Gonzalo's performances have been fantastic,” he said. "They defend very well, they're both aggressive but the big thing is that they keep the ball really well. "We have a footballing philosophy at this club and everyone knows that, so you have to bring in players and full-backs that match that philosophy." The former Chelsea midfielder believes Albion fans are finally seeing the best of Chilean Jara after witnessing his versatility at left-back, centre-back and in midfield during his time at The Hawthorns. "We knew he was a right-back all the time but we needed him in central midfield, at centre-back and at left-back," he added. "But he is a positive character who always says 'play me where you need me'. "If we asked him to play at centre-forward he would do it and say 'it doesn't matter, just play me there'. "He is positive and he wants to go out there, and play and win. "That's the kind of character he is. "And when you have that kind of positivity in the dressing room it helps."
