Assistant hopes to work with experienced boss

Albion No.2 Keith Downing expects the club to appoint a well-known coach as the hunt for Roy Hodgson’s successor continues.

Hodgson this week agreed to become England manager after leading Albion to two mid-table finishes.

Downing believes the club has established itself during Hodgson’s reign and can now attract an experienced coach with a proven track record to the Hawthorns hot-seat.

"I would imagine it would attract a bigger name now,” said Downing.

"We're becoming an established Premier League team now - over the last two or three years we've come on leaps and bounds.

"I think it's an attractive club for someone to take on.

"There have been two very good managers that have been through the door in the last two or three years.

"It will be a big step for somebody but obviously they'll put their own slant on it.

"It's a good club, with good players and they have a good work ethic.

"So, the people that come in will certainly have good players and good attitudes to work with.

"It will be a big step but one I'm sure someone will be looking forward to taking."
