Di Matteo pleased with back-to-back home wins
Boss aiming to maximise home fixtures in run-in Roberto Di Matteo has targeted maximum points in Albion’s remaining home fixtures after the Baggies recorded consecutive victories at The Hawthorns. Goals from Ishmael Miller on his first start in 15 months, another superb strike from Robert Koren and a Graham Dorrans spot-kick saw the Baggies beat Blackpool by three goals to two for the second time this season. The Baggies extended their lead over third placed Nottingham Forest, despite Charlie Adam’s long range effort opening the scoring in the 6th minute. Miller levelled the scores in the 13th minute with a trademark strike following a great through ball from Chris Brunt. Robert Koren’s second wonder strike in a week gave Albion the lead after the break before Brett Ormerod pegged the Baggies back with a far post header in the 72nd minute. However, after Giles Barnes had been brought down on the edge of the area, Graham Dorrans’ penalty saw history repeat itself and send Albion within four points of leaders Newcastle United. “It doesn't matter where we get the points from to be quite honest, whether it's at home or away," said the Baggies boss. "Starting this week, we looked at the fixture list and saw we had seven games out of 12 at home, which we knew the importance of. "I'm very pleased we've managed to win the first two at home. "We're in a good position but there are so many games still to play. "As you could see today, every game is tough to win. "Blackpool played some excellent football and made it very difficult for us. "Also, this was our third game in seven days, while Blackpool didn't play in midweek, and I think that showed in the final ten minutes.”
