Di Matteo backs Redknapp for England

West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo believes Harry Redknapp is "the obvious choice" to replace Fabio Capello as England coach. Capello has announced he will end his England reign after the Euro 2012 finals and retire from football. West Brom take on Spurs at the Hawthorns on Saturday with Di Matteo believing Redknapp is the ideal candidate to make the step up to international level. He said: "Fabio Capello has announced his retirement (after Euro 2012) and we should respect his decision. For me, Harry Redknapp is the most obvious successor at the moment. Harry is a great guy, a great manager, a football guy. He has done a terrific job at Spurs and is very likeable." Tottenham will be without striker Jermain Defoe who suffered ankle ligament damage when on England duty in Switzerland in mid-week. But Di Matteo is aware of the strength in depth that Spurs possess. He said: "Defoe is out but they have so many good players. I could list a lot of them. They are a good side, they finished in the top four, but we will make it as difficult as possible."
