Defensive awareness pleases boss

Head coach delighted to see training sessions work Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo admitted his delighted after seeing the hard work on the training field pay off during the 2-1 victory against VV Venlo in Holland.  The Italian has been in the Netherlands all week with his players working on various aspects of defending ahead of the Premier League kick-off.    Goals from Ishmael Miller – his second in as many pre-season games – and Gabriel Tamas saw the travelling Baggies claim victory in front of more than 400 Albion fans.  Despite Di Matteo claiming results are not important, he was pleased to see training drills replicated during 90-minutes as Albion maintained their unbeaten pre-season record.  "I've been very, very pleased with the players all week,” said the former MK Dons boss. "They've been really professional in training and today I was delighted with how we defended against Venlo. "We've been working on certain aspects of our defensive play and you could see that today. "I'm not interested in pre-season results. "I just want to see the players do well in possession and work hard when not in possession - and they certainly did that today. "We have another tough week of work ahead and I'm pleased with how our preparations are going."
