West Brom boss Roy Hodgson expects talks to "hot up" over a new contract now the season is close to its conclusion.

Hodgson's current deal runs out this summer, although he has often indicated that he is happy at The Hawthorns.

It is understood initial talks have taken place between the club and Hodgson's advisor, but the former Liverpool manager wants assurances that Albion's plans for the future mean they will not be battling for Barclays Premier League survival every season.

Asked about a new contract, Hodgson said: "I've talked about it lots of times. We've broached the subject over a long period of time.

"As we reach the end of the season, I'm sure the talks will hot up between the club and my advisor and we will see where that takes us.

"I have said on many occasions I like the club, like the people and am enjoying myself. But if I'm going to continue working here year after year, I want to do it at the level I feel I should be working at, which is the Premier League."

Hodgson joined the Baggies 15 months ago after being sacked by Liverpool and steered them clear of relegation last season. They are currently eight points above the bottom three.
