Di Matteo proud of players' spirit Roberto Di Matteo praised his players’ resilience after battling back to earn a point against Wigan. Peter Odemwingie gave Albion the lead in the 5th minute, although the hosts trailed at half time following free kicks from Charles N’Zogbia and former loanee Ben Watson. But, not for the first time this season, Di Matteo’s men found an equalizer and were unlucky not to earn all three points after Chris Brunt and Marc-Antonie Fortune both hit the post. "The players gave me everything," the Italian said. "We showed great spirit to get back into it. "The fans were magnificent again and we'll need them right until the end. "We were unlucky we didn't win. "I feel we deserved a bit more. "We started well. "We had an offensive team out and had 17 attempts on goal. "We hit the post twice and their keeper made some incredible saves. "Sometimes, we need that little bit of luck where it comes off the post and goes in or drops in front of one of our players. "But we certainly put pressure on Wigan and finished very strongly." The head coach also reserved praise for new-boy Carlos Vela on his full debut for the club and hopes to see more from the exciting Mexican when he’s fully fit. "He had a good start to the game," he added. "He was dangerous and I think he'll be a very good addition for us. "We knew he was not going to last 90 minutes so what happened was more or less planned."
