Clarke: We deserved more

Boss believes Albion worthy of win

Steve Clarke admitted his disappointment after only earning a point against Stoke City during yesterday’s 0-0 draw.

The Baggies enjoyed the best of the chances of the Britannia Stadium but found Asmir Begovic in imperious form.

Stephane Sessognon had Albion’s best chances but twice was denied when through on goal by Begovic after separate jinking runs.

The draw extended Albion’s run to five games without defeat and the Baggies’ unbeaten record on the road.

“I’m a little bit disappointed only to come away with a point,” Clarke admitted.

“It’s a good solid away performance that got us a point at a difficult place to come – but we should be talking about three points.

“I think the run is testament to the fact we’re growing as a group.

“August seems a long time ago when you consider how poor we were in the two home games.

“Our away form has been good.

“We’re strong, we’re solid and we know how to play away from home.

“I think you can see signs as a team and squad that we’re doing better.

“All you can do is try and improve from week to week.

“We don’t get too carried away because it’s only a point.

“I’ve just looked at the table and we’ve actually dropped a place.

“It’s an unforgiving league if you don’t get the wins at the right time.

“We’re five unbeaten but only two wins.

“We need to turn the draws into wins – that’s important.”
