West Brom manager Steve Clarke has praised the performances of central defender Jonas Olsson while uncertainty continues to surround his future.

Olsson's agent, Martin Dahlin, held further talks over a new contract for the Swedish international on Thursday afternoon with Albion's sporting director, Dan Ashworth, at the club's training ground.

The player is in the final year of his current deal and is the only remaining player at the Hawthorns not to commit his future long term. However, Clarke is delighted with the displays of Olsson since taking charge in the summer.

He has formed a rock solid partnership with Gareth McAuley to help propel the Baggies into the top six of the Barclays Premier League.

Former Chelsea and Liverpool number two Clarke said: "Jonas's discussions are ongoing. The fact that his agent was here tells you that.

"We've made it clear we want him to stay but Jonas has been terrific in the matches he's played since I've been here.

"The contract talks certainly haven't been playing on his mind and he has played a big part for Albion."

Midfielder James Morrison recently ended speculation over his future by putting pen to paper on a new four-year contract.
