Clarke: Albion unfortunate to lose

Boss expected tight game

Steve Clarke admitted he got what he expected against Midlands rivals Stoke City in Albion’s 1-0 defeat.

Stoke’s hoodoo over the Baggies continued when Dean Whitehead poked home City’s only real chance in a game of few opportunities.

Clarke made six changes to the side which lost against Swansea and his reshuffled pack failed to create any meaningful chances against a dogged Stoke side.

The Scot believes that both sides cancelled each other out and hoped the one real opening of the game would fall Albion’s way.

“To be honest it was the kind of game we thought it might be,” said Clarke.  “The two teams really cancelled each other out and it was a game of very, very few chances.  “We spoke before it was probably a game of one chance.  “We spoke again at half-time it was probably a game of one chance and unfortunately for us the chance fell to Stoke.”
