Carson puts promotion ahead of World Cup dream
Skipper focused on club before country Albion captain Scott Carson has put any thoughts of being selected for the World Cup to the backburner – despite his Man-of-the-Match performance against Reading. The England international was delighted to help Albion extend their six-game unbeaten streak at The Madejski Stadium on Saturday and insisted his thoughts are solely on club and not country. The three-timed capped England international has an outside chance of being selected for the finals in South Africa but Carson has refused to think of anything apart from promotion with only six games of the season remaining. “I'd like to be at the World Cup but I don't think it will happen now," the skipper conceded. "I'm just getting my head down and trying to improve. "The next time we're in the Premier League, hopefully we can have a good season, and then maybe think about it. "I'm working really close with Deano. "He gives me confidence to go out and play and I seem to be taking that into games at the moment. "Deano has got to take a bit of credit for that. "He's got me back playing the way I used to. "Obviously, England is at the back of my mind at the moment and I'm just trying to concentrate on playing well and consistently well. "It's down to Mr Capello who he picks. "Rob Green has started the last few games so he's the man in possession. "There are two of three months to go until the start of the World Cup so the No.1 spot is there for someone to grab. "I don't think it will be me. "I'm not really thinking about it. "I'm just getting my head down, working hard, and if something comes of it then it does. "Mr Capello's first thought is going to be the Premier League - that's the top league. "I think it's too late for me but there is Joe Hart, Robinson, Green and James - a number of keepers who are ahead of me in the pecking order. "But I have just had my 24th birthday so hopefully I've got another ten or 15 years in football. "I don't want to take my time but I want to get my head down and get back to playing well. "And if you're playing well hopefully England will take care of itself."
