Captain Carson continues role

'Keeper stays as skipper Scott Carson has been told he’ll remain captain of the Baggies for the forthcoming season.  The England international skippered Albion to an immediate return to the Premier League last season but was unsure whether he’d retain the armband. But the 24-year-old revealed Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo spoke to him during Albion’s pre-season tour of Holland and told him to continue his role. “I spoke to the gaffer during our pre-season trip to Holland and he said it worked well last season and that he'd like me to carry on with the captaincy this season," said the former Leeds and Liverpool man. "I was delighted with that and I'm very proud. "Hopefully, it can work as well as it did last season - starting at Chelsea on Saturday week. "I have a good relationship with the gaffer and hopefully that can carry on too. "I can't really answer how being captain has changed me - that's for other people to answer, really. But there is an extra onus on me. "The gaffer will tell me what's happening and sometimes I have to go and tell the players something they don't want to hear. "So I can be a bit of a gopher at times between the head coach and the players - but that's part of the job." Carson has revealed how the captaincy has made him come of age - especially after games. "That's the main thing," added the ex-Liverpool man. "Now and then after matches, I used to come in, throw my toys out of the pram and have a shout. "But after one game, the gaffer told me I was experienced and that the other players needed to look at me and see me being more upbeat. "An example is the game at Derby last season when we drew 2-2 but should have got more. "At the time, it put Nottingham Forest back into contention and the pressure was high. "But looking back, it was a good point. "I have to reflect on things and think a bit more before I act these days."
