Skipper says players must show patience

Chris Brunt says Albion’s players must show patience to get into Steve Clarke’s starting XI – after admitting is no longer a first choice selection.

Albion’s captain started his first game of the season on Saturday after being selected as a substitute for the first three games.

Brunt excelled in a wide left position and, along with creating a number of chances, supplied the corner for Gareth McAuley to head home to rescue a point.

The Northern Ireland international suffered an injury towards the end of pre-season and admitted his watching berth this term had been a frustrating one.

“It was frustrating and disappointing not to be playing, especially when you’re sitting and watching the team struggle a little bit,” said former Sheffield Wednesday man.

“But it’s a squad game nowadays and I’m sure there will be times this season when it will happen to other people – and it will happen to me again.

“We have invested in a squad and throughout the season you have to rely on everybody.

“I was glad to play on Saturday and was pleased with my contribution and hopefully I’ve done enough to stay in the team for this week against Sunderland.”
