Boss satisfied with Hammers point
But Di Matteo admits it could've been more Baggies head coach Roberto Di Matteo revealed he was satisfied with a point against West Ham – but believes Albion did enough to earn all three points. Di Matteo’s men controlled the game for long periods and took the lead when Peter Odemwingie marked his return from injury with a penalty in the 38th minute following a push on Stephen Reid. But Albion were unable to get to halftime in the lead after Scott Parker’s rocket minutes before the whistle. West Ham took control of the game after the break when former Albion target Frederick Piquionne scored another from the spot. But not for the first time this season, Albion again battled back bravely with Pablo Ibanez making no mistake with a free-header in the 71st minute. Albion pushed forward for a winner but were unable to force a way past West Ham’s wobbling back-line in the closing stages. "I think we did well tonight," said Di Matteo. "Upton Park is a difficult ground to play at. "West Ham have very passionate supporters. "We controlled the game quite well, took a deserved lead but then gave them an early Christmas present just before half-time. "We are generous people and we put them back into the game! "In the second half, it turned in their favour but we managed to get an equaliser - I think a deserved one - and we're a little bit disappointed with the way the game went. "But I will take a point away from home." As well at the point, the Italian was pleased to put an end to Albion’s two-game losing streak – and see his side return to form after defeats against Blackpool and Manchester City. He added: "It was very important for us not to suffer another defeat and make it three in a row. "We also produced a good performance - and that's important. "Every time we produce a performance, we get a point or three from the game."
