Di Matteo plays waiting game over new signings Roberto Di Matteo is refusing to panic buy during the January transfer window. The Baggies are yet to make a signing in January preferring to wait for the right player instead of rushing into a deal. Albion were close to securing the services of Aston Villa striker John Carew last week. But the Norwegian chose Stoke City over the Baggies. The Baggies boss still wants to strengthen his squad before the window closes on Monday and revealed the deals are still trying to be agreed.   "The situation is that we are a work in progress," said the Italian.   "We are trying to get things done and working away. "I've always said that I wasn't going to do anything just for the sake of it - there is no point in that. "It's anybody's guess what will happen. "It's not always in our control so it's difficult to answer the question as to what will happen. "We are West Bromwich Albion and we are trying to do our best. "I can guarantee the staff are trying their hardest. "I'm sure some deals will get done in the last few days as some clubs keep their options open. "Sometimes a club gets one in then releases another one. "We've seen it with Manchester City buying Dzeko and then Adebayor goes to Real Madrid, and so on."
