Experienced additions welcomed by Di Matteo Roberto Di Matteo believes Albion’s did as much as they could during the summer transfer window. The Baggies brought eleven new faces to the club to boost Albion’s automatic promotion side last term. While the Italian doesn’t expect the likes of James Hurst or Craig Dawson – who has returned to Rochdale – to make any great impact immediately, he said additions of experienced pros will make bring a much needed blend to his squad.. Backing up Sporting and Technical Director, Dan Ashworth comments on Albion being competitive, he said: “I think as much as we could, we have signed players that will give us some ability or qualities that we didn't have before. “I look at the whole squad and I hope we have a good balance. “We have managed to cover most positions because we have some players who are very versatile and can play in a lot of different positions. “I want us to be competitive and the players we have brought in are competitive and they will strengthen our team. “Hopefully we can go into games and be right in there, then if a Fernando Torres pulls off a real piece of class we have to live with that. “But I want us to be competitive. “The Premier League is a tough league. You need to be physically strong and mentally strong. “You need to have a little bit of skill, a little bit of enthusiasm, some confidence and a bit of everything. “We had a very young squad last year. “The average age was quite low and we have injected a little bit of experience into it, so we hope that is the right recipe to have a good season.”
