Hodgson happy to invest in youth

Roy Hodgson doesn’t have any issue with the club using funds from its transfer budget on its plans to secure 'Category One Academy' status under the new Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).

The club revealed plans at the end of March to use funds from ‘existing playing budgets’ to cover the costs of the initial £2.5 million development of training facilities and an annual £3 million on player development.

The Albion boss insists that he backs any move to make the club “grow” and that makes it “bigger and stronger”.

He commented: "All of these things are very wise ways to spend some of the club's money because it's investing in the future, investing in players and investing in our daily life.

"You visit a stadium once every ten days on average for about nine months whereas we spend an awful amount of time at the training ground, as do the Academy.

"I am very much in favour of these things.

"I think we are becoming relatively famous for the way we spend money wisely at the club.

"We don't just jump at the first idea and throw money at it, we try to analyse if there is a better way.

"I was very pleased to hear that Jeremy [Peace] is going to spend this money on the club because I think it's something that will show everybody the club is serious, not just about the immediate future but also the long-term future."
