Belief the key for boss

Di Matteo says squad always confident Robert Di Matteo revealed he wasn’t surprised to see his side’s fantastic 3-2 victory over Arsenal at The Emirates. The Baggies stormed into a 3-0 lead courtesy of strikes from Peter Odemwingie, Gonzalo Jara and ex-Arsenal wing-wizard Jerome Thomas. Two late goals from Samir Nasri brought a more respectable scoreline for the Gooners but the Baggies held on to record their first victory on Arsenal soil in 27 years. "We go into all games believing we can win," said Di Matteo. "At the end of the day, you try your best and if the opposition is better or if they're lucky on the day you put your hands up. "I said before the league started we would go into every game in the Barclays Premier League trying to win. "It's not our philosophy to go anywhere and defend. "You need belief to be able to get a result like that. "The way we won was good. "It wasn't like we were lucky. "I thought we played some tremendous football and defended well. "Against Arsenal, you have to defend. "But I thought we deserved to win with the way we created chances and scored goals. "It was a tremendous performance." Despite the ‘tremendous’ victory – which moved Albion up to fifth in the Premier League – the Baggies boss refused to get carried away. "We got a hammering at Chelsea and it wasn't a pretty day after that. "But we've learned and we still have more to learn and areas to improve. "We've tried to remove those mistakes that we made at Chelsea. "We gave them the first three goals and it is difficult to come back against any team after that. "We've cut out those mistakes so far and it gives us the chance to maybe win games. "But you have to remember we have one of the smallest budgets in the league. "We had a fantastic day - but you need to be realistic."
