Caretaker head coach in confident mood Caretaker head coach Michael Appleton says he’s not been fazed by his sudden promotion. The former Albion midfielder will take control of the Baggies this weekend against West Ham United following Roberto Di Matteo being relieved of his duties. Appleton has served as a coach at The Hawthorns for the past seven years after having to retire through injury. His temporary appointment has brought Appleton into the media limelight since Sunday, but he claims he’s taken his new role in his stride. "I've been at the club for ten years and I have an advantage in that respect,” he said. "I literally know the club inside out - from top to bottom. "There is not much I don't know about the football club, whether that's from a recruitment point of view, admin point of view, football point of view or Academy point of view. "I see that as an advantage and I've enjoyed the last couple of days. "In respect of the three staff that have left I'm well aware there has been a bit of controversy. "There is always going to be when people leave a football club, whether it's staff or players. "But ultimately someone has to pick up the reins - and I've been asked to pick up the reins. "I'm going to do things to the best of my ability and do it my way. "My way is a way the players know anyway. "I've always been a straight talker, I tell people how it is and look them in the eye. "I won't shirk responsibility. "I did that as a coach anyway. "The players know what's coming and what I expect from them."
