Caretaker head coach relieved to get a point Caretaker head coach Michael Appleton admitted he was happy to win a point yesterday – despite being 3-0 up at half time. In a classic game of two halves, Albion stormed into a three goal lead at the break before somehow being pegged back in the second half. New head coach Roy Hodgson watched the 3-3 draw from the Directors’ Box and Appleton admitted he saw Albion at their best and worst at The Hawthorns yesterday. "I think Roy saw the good, the bad and the ugly today of us today,” he said. "We made a fantastic start. It couldn't have gone any better. "But 3-0 is a dangerous scoreline at half-time and we talked to the boys about momentum. "It's a big thing in football and so it was crucial to get the first goal in the second half. "The first 15 minutes were going to be key and to concede the goal, in the position we're in at the minute, showed the boys are a little bit frail. "In the end, I thought they hung on really well because it could have been an even worse result. "The word momentum is huge in all sport, especially football. "We didn't really deal with their diagonal balls into the box. "If we won the first one, we didn't win the second one. "It made us go deeper, deeper and deeper. "The goals we conceded was a culmination of a lot of things. "Confidence was sky high at half time and what tends to happen is, when you've been on a run like we have for a while, when you lose a goal doubts start to get into players' minds. "That's especially the case when your team talk is about not conceding."
