Exciting midfielder joins from Dundee United

Albion have completed their first signing of 2012 after Scott Allan joined from Dundee United for an undisclosed fee.

The Scotland Under-21 international has signed a two-and-a-half year deal, plus a year in the club’s favour, after passing a medical. He will wear the No.16 jersey.

The Baggies beat the likes of Rangers and Celtic to the signing of the in-demand midfielder who is one of Scotland’s biggest prospects.

Allan was spotted north of the boarder by Albion’s scouting network and has been resembled to fellow Scot Graham Dorrans by Sporting and Technical Director Dan Ashworth.

"We've fought off a lot of competition to sign Scott and we're delighted that he sees this football club as the next stage of his career," said Ashworth. "Our scout in Scotland, Tommy Coakley, brought Scott to our attention after seeing him play for Dundee United in the summer and I've also watched him play a couple of times for Scotland Under-21s. "We're always interested in talented young players - and Scott definitely fits into that category. "He's a technical midfielder whose attributes are not too dissimilar to those of Graham Dorrans. He can pick a pass, has good feet and isn't afraid to put his foot in.

"But we must be mindful that he is still only a young player.

"Although he will become part of, and train with, the first-team squad, we have to give him time to acclimatise to the demands of the Barclays Premier League."

The 20-year-old revealed he couldn’t wait to get training with his new teammates and revealed why he chose the Baggies over the old-firm.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Allan said. “It is a massive step-up in class.

“I’ve turned down the chance to play for Celtic and Rangers to play in the best league in the world. It’s the best platform to showcase what I can do.”
