Albion receive massive Jara blow

Chile star out for the season Gonzalo Jara’s season has been cut short after fracturing a metatarsal on his right foot during the 2-2 fifth round draw against Reading.  The versatile Chile international was left in agony after the challenge and required five stitches in his foot.  The £1.4 million summer signing was then sent for an x-ray with results unfortunately showing a fracture with the international’s World Cup dream now in the balance.  Jara now joins long term injury victim James Morrison plus Ishmael Miller, Marek Cech, Jerome Thomas and Youssouf Mulumbu all unavailable for selection against Cardiff on Tuesday (KO 19.45).  Abdoulaye Meite is also expected to miss the trip to Wales after being on the end of another back tackle with Andwele Slory also a doubt. "It's really bad news for us regarding Gonzalo,” Di Matteo said. "He got caught on the follow through and as well as having an open wound, he has also fractured a metatarsal. "I don't think he will play again this season, which is a massive blow for us. "He should recover in time for the World Cup but, unfortunately for both him and Chile, he won't be playing any football in the next two-and-a-half months. "Abou won't be available tomorrow either. He was on the end of a nasty tackle. His ankle is badly bruised and he's in a bit of pain. "Andy didn't train yesterday and we'll have to assess him. But we haven't ruled him out."
