Striker set to miss Spurs game

Albion today tried to move on from Peter Odemwingie’s failed attempt to join Queens Park Rangers on transfer deadline day.

Odemwingie was filmed waiting outside Loftus Road in an attempt to push through a deal which would’ve increased his weekly salary by around £10,000.

But the striker was left red faced after Albion knocked back a third Rangers bid to leave the Nigerian in limbo.

Odemwingie reported for training this morning and was quickly ushered into a meeting with Dan Ashworth, his replacement Richard Garlick and head coach Steve Clarke.

Albion say the meeting was constructive but the striker was still sent home and told to report back to the club after Sunday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

After Odemwingie’s failed attempt to exit the Baggies, Chairman Jeremy Peace slammed the forwards attitude and conduct.

“The developments have brought a conclusion to what has been an unsavoury affair,” Peace said after the transfer deadline had passed.

“As our sporting & technical director (designate) Richard Garlick has repeatedly said in recent days, we had no need or desire to sell our core players.

“The only way we would have considered letting Peter leave was if an acceptable offer was forthcoming and if we had found a suitable replacement at relatively short notice.

“Neither materialised and, in the end, the matter became a point of principle as much as anything.

“Peter has acted wholly unprofessionally. He must now accept the fact he remains under contract for a further 18 months and has to focus on his Albion commitments.”
