West Brom are stepping up their efforts to sign Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan, Press Association Sport understands.

The Wales international - available on a free transfer - is understood to have held initial talks with the Baggies.

Vaughan has been offered a three-year deal by the Tangerines despite their relegation to the Championship.

He has also spoken with Sunderland and Rangers, although The Hawthorns is believed to be his preferred destination.

The 28-year-old, who was Blackpool's player of the year, is also keen to stay close to his current home in north Wales.

Everton were linked with Vaughan at the end of last season but have not spoken so far to the player.
