Baggies interested in Kone and Di Santo

Albion are reportedly interested in the striking duo that were relegated with Wigan Athletic.

Argentinean international Franco Di Santo has already been approached about a free transfer move to The Hawthorns with Arouna Kone also on Albion’s radar.

Kone made 38 appearances for the Latics last season firing an impressive 14 goals. Di Santo featured 35 times for Wigan and scored 5 times but neither could help the FA Cup winners avoid relegation.

Di Santo, who won his first international cap last season, seems keen on a switch to The Hawthorns after initial talks went well. However, Albion face competition from Everton and Norwich for the £5 million-rated Kone.

Albion’s interest in the pair has increased a day after Sporting and Technical Director Richard Garlick said the club were open to offers for Markus Rosenberg.

“It’s been frustrating for him and it’s been frustrating for us in terms of how it panned out for him,” he said.

“If he’s going to have the same season as last season then it will be even more frustrating for him.

“So if there is a solution there that everyone is happy with then we will look at that but obviously he still has two years left (on his contract).

“We are at a stage of the pre-season where there is a lot of information-gathering. People are finding out what the situation is with various players and various clubs.

“He did well in Germany and Spain and there is interest out there for him. It’s just what form that interest is in and where it’s from.

“I’m in touch with his agent every week. He knows the situation, we know what we want and as we move on in the window maybe we’ll get something more concrete - but, yes, there is interest in him.”
