Werder thrash sorry Schalke

Werder Bremen leapfrogged Schalke 04 and moved up to second place in the Bundesliga table after thrashing the beaten Champions League quarter-finalists 5-1.
Ivan Klasnic grabbed a brace for Werder with Frank Baumann, Boubacar Sanogo and Markus Rosenberg also on the scoresheet as Bremen closed the gap on leaders Bayern Munich to seven points.
Kevin Kuranyi scored Schalke's consolation goal just before the break, heading home a low corner.
Meanwhile, at the foot of the table, Duisburg secured a vital three points with a 1-0 win at Hamburg - the fourth-placed side's first home defeat of the campaign. Ivivca Girlic scored the only goal of the match early in the second half.
Struggling Hansa Rostock also improved their hopes of beating the drop with a vital 2-1 victory at Karlsruhe, while the mid-table encounter between Bochum and Hertha Berlin ended 1-1.
The relegation six-pointer between Energie Cottbus and Arminia Bielefeld ended 1-0 to the home side thanks to Ervin Skela's second-half penalty, while Hannover beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 to remain tenth in the table.
