Silvestre set for Werder switch

Werder Bremen are hoping to sign free agent former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre.

Silvestre is available on a free transfer after leaving the Gunners when his two-year contract expired at the end of last season.

The former France international is now 33, but Werder are keen to sign him to bolster their defensive options.

"We are in promising talks and it looks like Silvestre is coming to us," sporting director Klaus Allofs told Kicker.

Silvestre, who made 40 international appearances for Les Bleus, won four Premier League titles and one Champions League crown during nine seasons with United.
