Schaaf offered Bremen backing

Werder Bremen have vowed to stand by head coach Thomas Schaaf, despite the club suffering five league defeats in a row.

The latest setback came with a 4-3 loss at Borussia Monchengladbach, but Bremen's sporting director Klaus Allofs has cooled talk of a crisis.

He told ZDF: "Before you even pose the question, there is absolutely no doubting the coach. We are very unsettled. We are a long way from the aims that only five weeks ago were right within our reach.

"Of course we cannot act as if everything is normal, but we won't do anything crazy. Nothing will change as far as the personnel is concerned.

"The players are insecure and they have the fear of losing. We have just got to carry on until the mistakes which are settling in the minds of the players move out again. It could still take a while."
