Pizarro's 'hole in foot' is just bruising
Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro admitted Tuesday a foot injury which left him with a "hole" in his boot after scoring his 150th German league goal is not as bad as first thought.
The 33-year-old former Chelsea star reached his goals landmark when he scored in the 29th minute of Bremen's 3-1 win over Mainz on Saturday.
He later picked up an injury which left him with "a hole" in his foot, according to German daily newspaper Bild, although x-rays confirmed he had only sustained severe bruising.
Peruvian international Pizarro, who also spent six years at Bayern Munich, allayed fears when showing off the torn boot in a video on Werder Bremen's website: "It was not as bad as thought, I have some bruising, but it's much better, I can walk normally now.
"I hope to be able to train with the team again on Thursday."
Even if Pizarro misses Saturday's Bundesliga clash against Cologne, Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf can at least welcome Marko Arnautovic back from a three-game suspension.
"I am delighted that I don't have to sit in front of the television any more and that I can now help the team on the field," said the Austria striker, who was shown a red card in the 3-2 defeat against Hanover at the start of October.
"I have to give 100 per cent in training and convince the coach to pick me on Saturday."
