Ozil says thank you to Bremen

Germany international Mesut Ozil has thanked his former club Werder Bremen for sanctioning his dream move to Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old playmaker had been at the Weserstadion since January 2008, but was adamant that he wanted to take up the opportunity to join the Spanish giants.

He told AS: "I am very glad that it ended this way. The last few days were very difficult for me, my family and the clubs who have been negotiating.

"Fortunately, my dream came true.

"Of course, I really wanted to play at Real Madrid, but at the same time I am very sad that I have left Bremen, as the club gave me the opportunity to make a qualitative step forward in my career.

"A man should never forget his past, so I am now covered with conflicting feelings."
