Niemeyer loaned out to Hertha

Werder Bremen have allowed Peter Niemeyer to join Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan, after handing the defensive midfielder a new contract.

The 26-year-old joins relegated Hertha with an option for the move to become permanent if the club return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.

Werder's director of sport Klaus Allofs told the club's official website: "In recent years Peter has always been a player who has fluctuated between the bench and the starting XI.

"Given our large complement of midfielders, it was going to be very difficult for him this season to get the amount of games he would like.

"I believe this transfer helps everybody. We are also certain that Peter will make the breakthrough in Berlin."
