Mertesacker staying with Bremen

Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker has admitted he will be staying at the Bundesliga outfit for the new campaign, despite the media rumours that have placed his future elsewhere this summer.

The Germany international was tipped to be on his way to Premier League side Arsenal, but the 25-year-old has now revealed he will remain at the Weserstadion.

Speaking to German daily newspaper Bild, Mertesacker said: "I'm staying at Bremen.

"There have been so many rumours concerning me, but I've never had to be concerned because none were concrete."
