Bremen secure Moreno loan

Werder Bremen have signed Bolivia striker Marcelo Moreno on a one-year loan deal from UEFA Cup winners Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 21-year-old came close to joining Bremen a year ago, but eventually opted to head to Ukraine, where he struggled to make his mark.

Bremen's sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club's official website: "We have been watching him for several years now and wanted to sign him last year.

"We are delighted that it has worked out now, albeit with a bit of a delay.

Moreno himself added: "We were very close to an agreement last year, but then I chose Donetsk.

"I am really pleased that Werder have given me a second chance. I would like to show my ability at Bremen and help both myself and the team develop."
