Bremen desperate to keep Frings

Werder Bremen have opened talks with veteran midfielder Torsten Frings over a new contract, with the Germany international's current deal set to run out next summer.

The 33-year-old, who has won nearly 80 caps for his country, is currently in his second spell at the Weserstadion, having also enjoyed spells with Alemannia Aachen, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs told Bild: "We would like to keep Torsten Frings.

"We have already had a chat about a new contract and will continue to talk to each other about a deal.

"We are aware of Torsten's ability and his importance to the squad. We know that he is committed to Werder 100 per cent."
