Boenisch upbeat over recovery

Werder Bremen defender Sebastian Boenisch has revealed his recovery from a knee ligament injury is progressing but that he is still five weeks away from returning to action.

Boenisch has been sidelined since undergoing surgery in the aftermath of a Bundesliga defeat to Schalke on December 12.

"I am doing really well," he declared. "We have to wait over the next couple days to see how the healing process is going.

"On Tuesday, I had the final evaluation with Dr. Eichhorn, the knee specialist who operated on me in December and it looks very positive.

"It is difficult to offer a prognosis about when I will return to the pitch.

"But realistically it will definitely be five weeks. Now we have to see how well the knee develops."
