Baumann confirms quit date

Veteran defensive midfielder Frank Baumann has confirmed that he will retire from the game following Werder Bremen's DFB-Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen.

The 33-year-old had been rumoured to be quitting at the end of the season and Baumann has now confirmed his decision.

He told the German press: "Ending my professional career is a very difficult decision for me.

"It got even harder for me with my final match coming up. However, I'm sure that it's the right thing to do."

Baumann made 28 appearances for Germany earlier in his career, while he has spent a decade with Bremen after joining from Nurnberg in 1999.
