Werder Bremen's Brazilian centre-back Naldo admitted Wednesday his left knee injury is worse than first thought and he is out of Saturday's German league clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

"I can not run for now, I am just doing a little work in the weights room," said Naldo, who missed Bremen's first league game of 2012 last weekend when they drew with Kaiserslautern.

The 29-year-old hopes to be fit for Werder's trip to Freiburg on February 5, but has struggled for fitness having only returned in August after 15 months out after surgery on his right knee and has played 15 games this season.

Werder have announced the signing of 20-year-old Swiss defender Francois Affolter from Young Boys of Berne, while Naldo is under contract with Bremen until June 2013.

Leverkusen are sixth in the German league while Bremen are fifth, seven points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
