Bremen's grieving Wiese to miss Bayern clash

Werder Bremen will be without Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese for Saturday's crunch German league clash at Bayern Munich following the death of his father due to cancer.

After Wiese's father Frank passed away, the 29-year-old returned to the family home on Tuesday and reserve goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz is expected to deputise at Munich's Allianz Arena.

"Tim will not be available at the weekend," said Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf.

"I spoke with him this morning, it is hard to process what is going on. We will see how he is doing in the next few days."

Bayern have lost their last two league games, against Borussia Dortmund and Mainz, to leave them third in the table with Bremen just two points behind in fourth.

In a bumper weekend, Bundesliga leaders Dortmund are at second-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach, with all of the league's top four teams playing off against each other and just three points separating first from fourth.
