Hornets pair ready for Boro

Ikechi Anya and Samba Diakite are poised to return to contention for Watford's home clash against Middlesbrough.

Wing-back Anya (calf) missed Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Birmingham while on-loan midfielder Diakite has sat out of the club's last two matches due to a similar injury.

Essaid Belkalem (ankle) and Mathias Ranegie (illness) have both returned to light training but the encounter against Boro could come too soon.

Defender Joel Ekstrand (knee) is a doubt having been forced off against Blues while Lewis McGugan (thigh), Almen Abdi (foot) and Fitz Hall (Achilles) continue to miss out.

Mustapha Carayol is battling to overcome a slight muscle strain to take his place in Middlesbrough's line-up.

The injury forced the midfielder off against Blackburn last weekend but Boro boss Aitor Karanka later described the problem as "nothing serious".

Striker Lee Tomlin completes his three-match ban for a red card in his final appearance for Peterborough and must continue to wait for his Middlesbrough debut, which cannot come soon enough for a side that have failed to score in their last four outings.

New loan signing Tomas Mejias Osorio is unlikely to dislodge Shay Given in goal, although he could get his opportunity when the Republic of Ireland international returns to Aston Villa at the end of the month.
