Ranegie set for season bow

Mathias Ranegie could make his first appearance of the season when Watford host Doncaster in the Capital One Cup.

The Swedish striker has recovered from a groin injury and will be in contention with boss Beppe Sannino set to rotate his squad.

Lloyd Dyer and Lewis McGugan are hoping to be involved after they were left out of the squad for Saturday's 4-1 win over Leeds. Dyer's absence was particularly surprising as he had scored in the previous match against Rotherham.

Craig Cathcart is still ruled out with a knee injury and fellow centre-half Joel Ekstrand completes a three-match ban.

Doncaster captain Rob Jones could come into contention for the trip.

Jones was a cause for concern last week when, having only recently returned from a neck injury that kept him out for nine months, the central defender was forced off against Preston with another neck complaint. Despite scans showing no serious damage, the 34-year-old was not risked on Saturday.

"Rob was still stiff on Friday so we decided the best thing to do, given how long he's been out, was to give him a rest for the weekend," said Rovers boss Paul Dickov. "We'll see how he is for Tuesday night. He'll definitely be okay to train this week at some point."

The second round tie sees forward Harry Forrester complete his three-match suspension.
