Ranegie banned for Hornets

Watford will be without the suspended Mathias Ranegie for the visit of relegation-threatened Barnsley.

The Swedish striker was sent off early on in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Doncaster and begins a three-match suspension. He could be joined on the sidelines by fellow forward Fernando Forestieri after he suffered a toe injury.

Joel Ekstrand is back from a ban of his own, however, to hand Hornets boss Beppe Sannino a boost.

Lewis McGugan was an unused substitute in midweek after missing nine games with a thigh injury and he could be handed a starting berth as Watford aim to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.

Barnsley will be without Jim O'Brien following the midfielder's season-ending knee injury.

O'Brien has had surgery to repair cartilage damage after missing the midweek home defeat to Leicester and is not expected to feature again in the current campaign.

Boss Danny Wilson is also expected to be without central defenders Peter Ramage and Martin Cranie as both players were forced out of Tuesday night's action with respective hamstring injuries.

Wilson could be left short of defenders with long-term absentee Bobby Hassell (calf) still struggling and Ryan McLaughlin, on loan from Liverpool, not ready to return following a hamstring problem.
