Taylor: Malky gives off good vibes

Mackay was last week named as the successor to Brendan Rodgers, who shocked Vicarage Road by leaving to take over at Reading after just six months in charge. And Taylor, the Hornets' most successful boss, thought the team were progressing under Mackay in his caretaker role towards the end of last year following Aidy Boothroyd's departure. The Vicarage Road director told the Watford Observer: "I think it would be fair to say that in that period of three to four games he did fine and the vibes that were coming back to me as a sort of Watford man but living in the Midlands was that Malky Mackay had done well. And that sort of registered in my mind. "Then it was a surprise to me, because I wasn't anything to do with the club, when suddenly Brendan was appointed and we all know what has happened since then. "But Malky from all accounts everyone was speaking very highly of him and consequently I think it would be fair to say that when Brendan left that if Malky wanted the job, which obviously he did and applied for it, he was going to be in the front-runners."
