Watford have snapped up defender Mathew Sadler from Birmingham City for an initial fee of £750,000.
The 22-year-old left-back has agreed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Hornets and the fee could rise to £900,000 depending on future add-ons.
Sadler progressed through the youth ranks at St Andrew's and was a mainstay in the side that won promotion from the Championship last season.
However, during the current campaign he has made just seven starts and was earmarked as surplus to requirements by new Blues boss Alex McLeish.
Sadler, who has been capped by England at several age groups, had signed a new contract in the summer but fell further down the pecking order following the departure of former manager Steve Bruce to Wigan Athletic earlier in the season.
